If your leaky BMW features a high-performance engine, it means it’s got an external oil cooler (sometimes even a transmission cooler) with the same perpetually leaking problem – the OEM o-rings where the oil cooling pipes meet the cooler and/or the oil filter housing. These are just as prone to compression set, hardening and embrittlement as the OFHG because they’re made of the same material. You must be crazy if you think I’m listing every engine and transmission that these o-rings are featured on. 🙂 Use the part numbers or the convenient Useful links on the right (or bottom if you’re on a mobile phone) to head over to RealOEM to check the if your engine/tranmission oil cooler features these and in which quantity! These o-rings come on everything from S54 to N55 and a lot of transmission oil coolers all the way from year 1993 to 2025.

Installation Instructions:
ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS, install the o-ring onto the pipe fitting first, lubricate with a very small amount of silicone grease and then insert into the hole on the cooler/radiator or oil filter housing. Doing it the other way around, inserting the o-rings into the holes and then pushing the pipe fittings through the o-ring, WILL shear the o-ring’s side. It doesn’t matter that you lubed it up and were very very gentle with it. Pipe fitting is 14.5mm OD and the o-ring is spec’d as 13.4mm ID. One does not go through the other without some damage to the rim – ask your uncle! Listen to the engineer, I’ve tried it myself and I’m a very gentle penetrator that has access to über lubes. It will not work, you will pinch and shear the inside edge of the o-ring and then a new o-ring will leak and you will scream on the Internet how my shit sucks and I will post a screenshot of this exact warning in response and you will feel like a silly little goose!
