Turbo Levo Comp Alloy (Gen4) Tuning Solutions
WARNING: After I’ve managed to do some testing on my own bike, I’ve realized that dual configuration is mandatory unless you plan on doing some fast straights/downhills because the single configuration doesn’t work for gears 1 to 8th. Other than that, dual configuration has the limitations of its own – it doesn’t work in gears from 1st to 3rd for very slow climbing. I need to mention that dual planet configuration brings the ratio down to 1,5:1 making your speed limit ~38 km/h if you’re in Europe or 30 mph if you’re in USA. BUT, fear not we are working on a chip which will solve these issues and it should soon hit the production phase.
P.S. If you order the Gen4 PLANET3 I will assume that you’ve read this warning and are fully aware of the issue.
PLANET3 is a planetary gear set which reduces the rotation speed of the magnet used by the wheel speed sensor three times. For every three full rotations of the rear wheel, the magnet completes just one full rotation – effectively making the bike think it’s doing 1/3 the speed it is actually doing, thus increasing the pedal assist speed limit by a factor of 3. For the Specialized models sold on EU/UK market this translates into a speed limit increase from 25 to 75 km/h (15.5 to 47 mph), while the US and Canada models limit is raised from 20 to 60 mph.
For the Levo Gen4 a dual planet configuration will be default in order to be more future-proof since Specialized is constantly messing around with walk mode which also affects PLANET3 functionality on some bikes. Currently, even with the most recent motor firmware the 2026 model bikes work with a 3:1 (single) planet configuration so you can still get a full de-restriction of the speed limit. However, if there are any speed sensor errors during low-speed pedaling (climbing slowly in low gears) – please try a dual planet configuration which brings the ratio down to 1,5:1 (halves it) making your speed limit ~38 km/h but bringing the rear wheel rotation speed closer to the “realistic” range which the motor would expect with a future version of the “anti-PLANET3” firmware.
